Have Something to Say?

We Want to Hear Your Story

Has WRAP changed your life and your wellness? We’d love to hear about it! Human Potential Press welcomes stories of recovery and wellness with WRAP. We also welcome your sample WRAPs to give others ideas of how to use this tool in a variety of areas of life. Personal stories are a great way to inspire others and support the global WRAP community.

If you want to share your experiences and wellness tools with the WRAP community, please use these guidelines to submit an article for consideration.

Content We Publish

Articles on the WRAP website support people as they create strategies for their own wellness and live life on their own terms. Stories provide hope and community through true, real-life examples of recovery, health, and wellness.

We love articles that share creative wellness tools, describe action plans for certain stressors or life challenges, talk about how real people have used WRAP to overcome obstacles, and show how “we are the evidence” that WRAP works for everyone. Like WRAP itself, our articles focus on strategies that are safe, simple, and free, and use WRAP resources for more information. If you have a WRAP story, please send it in!

Please include a short bio that states your full name, where you live, what you do (work, school/training, volunteering, passion projects, etc.), and how long you have been using WRAP. If you have a website, business, blog, etc., you can include a link in your bio.

Things we DON’T publish: Poetry, fiction, song lyrics, sales or promotional content, book reviews, medication reviews, extremely detailed stories of personal trauma, medical advice, legal advice, profanity, identifying information of other people, or anything else that we decide doesn’t support the mission or vision of WRAP.

Style & Length

WRAP is about connection. We look for articles with a conversational tone, like the writer is talking to a friend over a cup of tea. We know each person is different and your plan is specific to you. So we look for articles that show there are choices and options—not one right way to do things.

Most articles on the WRAP website are about 600 to 800 words. Shorter pieces may be combined or have other content added to them (such as a video, link, or image), and longer pieces may be broken into a series of articles. If you refer to other people’s work, please include a reference citation (author’s full name, title of original work, publication date, link if possible, etc.).

Photos & Illustrations

Our team will pick an image or images that fit well with your article. If you provide images to go with your article, please make sure you took them. If there are people in a picture you provide, we need a photo release from all of them. (We have a form for this.)

Send along a headshot of yourself to go with your article; people enjoy seeing who wrote the story they are reading. If you provide a photo someone else took, we’ll need a signed photo release from them before the article is published, which we’ll send you to complete and sign. The photo release form relates to the use of personal media and images used for an article or commercial endeavor by and between you and Human Potential Press/Advocates for Human Potential. We want to make sure everything is legally okay!

What's in It for You

Our friendly editorial team will work with you to polish and finalize the text before we publish it. This includes professional editing and proofreading. You’ll have the chance to review edits before your story is published. When the article is published online, we’ll give you the link so you can share it with friends, family, and colleagues. You’re welcome to share this link anywhere you like for as long as you like.

When the article is published, we’ll mail you one copy of your choice from the following WRAP books as a thank-you for your hard work: Wellness Recovery Action Plan (Red Book)WRAP for AddictionsWRAP for ReentryWRAP for Veterans, Active Service Members, and Military in TransitionFamily WRAPYouth WRAP; or WRAP Workbook.

The Fine Print

You must be the original author of any article you submit. Articles submitted to WRAP shouldn’t have been published anywhere else and can’t be published anywhere else for at least 6 months after we post it (this means we have 6 months of exclusive rights). After 6 months, you’re free to republish with the following notice: “This piece originally appeared on wellnessrecoveryactionplan.com. Contents Copyright © 2021 Advocates for Human Potential, Inc. (AHP). Republished with permission.”

When you submit an article for consideration, you’re giving us the right to publish it online, in print, and in any other media or format now or in the future. This is called perpetual nonexclusive rights. We may promote or repost the article on our Facebook page and through other communications channels owned by Human Potential Press and AHP, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, print and electronic newsletters, other websites, and other communication channels, as we see fit.

Ready to Go?

If you’re comfortable with the writers’ guidelines and excited to share your story or ideas, please email your article as a Word document (.doc or .docx) to info@wellnessrecoveryactionplan.com with BLOG SUBMISSION in the subject line. We will get back to you as soon as possible to let you know we got your submission and with a decision as to whether we’ll be publishing it. We won’t be able to print every story or sample WRAP we receive, but we’ll print as many as possible.
