In our last newsletter article, Resolutions, WRAP Style, I shared some strategies for incorporating the ever-popular new year’s resolutions into your WRAP. I also asked you to share some of YOUR strategies for using WRAP to take care of your wellness in the coming year. Thank you for your likes, shares, and comments on Facebook! There were two comments that took a different view of WRAP in the new year than what I had been thinking of when I wrote that article, and I’d like to highlight them here.
Heather said, “I’m going to use WRAP and the key concepts to reframe some ideas at work regarding our community crisis services. I am hoping to help our providers use these ideas to shape the way they deliver services and how they see their organizations, as well. I loved the idea of a corporate WRAP when we discussed it in Advanced Level training, and helping others see things through the WRAP lens really helps me continue to be mindful of the key concepts, parts of WRAP, and just how relatable it is to all aspects of our lives!”
What’s so powerful about the key concepts of WRAP is just what Heather highlighted: the key concepts of hope, personal responsibility, education, self-advocacy, and support really reach every part of our lives. In fact, I can’t think of a single area where they wouldn’t apply! This comment expanded my view beyond my narrow example from my own WRAP because it highlights such a broad, holistic approach for applying WRAP principles in all areas. Love it!
Catherine also commented from a different angle than the one I’d been focused on. She shared that she looks back at wins from the past year as part of her process for thinking about the new year. “It’s a way of honoring self that I can pull out when I feel hopeless,” she wrote.
At a time of year when many of us are thinking forward—myself included, as you can probably tell!—it can be helpful to reflect on how far we’ve come. Stopping to consider this reminded me that no matter what I may want to add, subtract, or edit in my life, there are many things to give myself credit for right now. I don’t have to be at the finish line to start my celebration.
It’s not too late to share your ideas for WRAPping through resolutions and supporting your wellness in 2017. Feel free to jump onto that Facebook post and comment with your thoughts.
Coming Soon…
In the newsletter survey conducted last fall, the WRAP community expressed a strong desire to hear more about creative wellness tools and practical applications of WRAP. I’ve shared some of my ideas for these areas, and I want to hear more from you! So let’s kick our crowdsourcing up a notch.
- Do you have a WRAP story you’d like to share?
- A wellness tool you want to know more about?
- A unique or special way you have used WRAP to accomplish your goals?
We would love to hear about it! WRAP is about choices and options, and the more voices we incorporate, the more choices we have. This is your official invitation to share your WRAP story for inclusion in the newsletter or on the MentalHealthRecovery.com website. There are several ways you can do this:
- When we ask questions on Facebook, leave a comment with your experiences!
- Send us a message on Facebook or send an email to newsletter@wrapandrecoverybooks.com and tell us what questions you think we should be asking!
- Email us a short paragraph about your favorite wellness tool at newsletter@wrapandrecoverybooks.com and we’ll incorporate it into upcoming articles about wellness tools.
- Email us your WRAP story at newsletter@wrapandrecoverybooks.com if you’d like to see it featured alone or in conjunction with other stories in an upcoming article.
- Email us some thoughts at newsletter@wrapandrecoverybooks.com if you want to share ideas but aren’t sure where to start.
You’ll begin seeing more and more new voices, choices, and stories featured in the newsletter (published every other week) and on www.MentalHealthRecovery.com (updated weekly). Which reminds me—did you see Wali Mutazammil’s story last week on the website? Read “I Am Them”: Transforming the World Through WRAP.
Looking forward to building our wellness together!
